Starting Strong: How Admission Teams Prepare for the Year Ahead

August 27, 2026

It’s September.

Around many Independent School Admission/Enrollment offices, September marks both the symbolic and the practical start of the new Admission year!  Time to start engaging with families that will be considering applying to our schools for 2027-2028. There are a number of boxes we all like to check as September unfolds.  Open House promo post cards and flyers are printed and ready to distribute.  The admission office pages on our websites have been updated with fresh deadline dates, campus visit opportunities, and photos!

As we’ve mentioned here in the past, one of the (many) benefits of connecting with AISAP is the access that gives us to learn from others.  In that spirit, I’m throwing this question out to you and your teams — What is something you do in September to be sure you are ready for the new admission/application season?

For instance, our team of four likes to book a day off campus to look at the year ahead.  We literally go through our school and admission office calendars week by week to be sure we have all the details in place for our upcoming events and outreach activities.  Over the past few years, we’ve invited members of the enrollment marketing and communications team to join us for part of that day away.  That becomes a nice opportunity to get everyone on the same page before our calendars get filled and — as a byproduct (that might also be intentional) — nurtures and supports our collaborative partnership.

What does your team do in September to prepare for the months ahead? Post your ideas in the comments section.  We look forward to hearing back from you.

Have a great start to your new season!
